New Moon Review
Bella Swan needs Edward Cullen like she needs air, a fact she learns when he and his family leave her behind in the small town of Forks. Crippled with pain, there is only one silver lining- her best friend, Jacob Black. Her life starts to seem like any other human life besides the extreme broken heart. However, when both new and old threats and complications come to surface, Bella's life is hurtled back in the line of danger. The problem is, there is no vampire to protect her anymore.
Keep in mind that everyone has their own opinion. This review is only my opinion, and you may have your own, different one. I would take into consideration what I say, but do not make a decision about the book solely based off of this review. Let's begin:
This second installment in the Twilight saga made me really question my feelings for both Edward and Jacob. I now fully understand the 2000s debate of team Edward or team Jacob. I mean, seriously... Stephenie Meyer really knows how to create male characters that people will fall in love with while reading. Okay, now that that is out of the way, I will talk about the actual book.
Character building appears to be one of the author's strong suits. She took Jacob, a relatively minor character in the first book, and made him into this major character that readers grow to really attach to. I loved watching Jacob change and grow. His storyline is really interesting and makes him a very complex character. I also feel like he is very real. Edward is real in some ways, but he is also so perfect that it is slightly difficult to relate to him. Jacob is not like that. He has his good and bad sides, and I really appreciated that Meyer did this because I felt like I could understand the character a lot more. That being said, I love everything related to Jacob in the book- his personality, his darkness, his story, etc.
I also like the different phases that Bella goes through in different parts of the story. She really goes through a lot, and it was fun seeing her adapt to the dangers and complications. I cannot really say too much on this if I want to avoid spoilers, though.
The introduction of the Volturi was cool. I think it was set up enough that I am interested in that storyline and how it will play out. Readers really get the idea that, while it was not the only thing happening in the book, it is also not something to be forgotten. In other words, you can feel that it will play a bigger part in the saga and that it will provide for complex situations.
Everything from the romance to the action is written very well. The book is easy to understand, but not so easy as to be boring and simple. Similar to what I said in my review for Twilight, you can basically say any concept of writing a book, and I will say that it was done well.
Overall, I loved this book and highly recommend it. I possibly like it even better than the first, and I really really enjoyed the first. I believe that this is simply because of Jacob's becoming a major character and his story. There was nothing that I really disliked enough to talk about in this review.
