A Court of Silver Flames Review

Nesta Archeron has always had a temper and, since becoming High Fae, she has been unable to find her place. She cannot get past the events of the war with Hybern. Cassian is the person who makes her temper flare the most, but he also ignites a fire in her. This fire grows and grows when they are forced to spend time together. Meanwhile, the human queens have grown threatening and must be stopped before they break the fragile peace established since the last war. In order to stop them, Nesta and Cassian must face their past and present. They will have to face exterior and interior battles as they search for their place together.

Keep in mind that everyone has their own opinion. This review is only my opinion, and you may have your own, different one. I would take into consideration what I say, but do not make a decision about the book solely based off of this review. Let's begin:

I was very excited for this book, even more so after it was released and the hype around it grew considerable. Also, I absolutely loved the other books in this series. So, of course, my expectations were very high. I was worried that I would be disappointed even a little bit. I should have known that wouldn't happen.

I really enjoyed getting to know Nesta and Cassian more, especially Nesta because of how much hate she got after the first three books. I never hated her character. I acknowledged the actions that she made that were not good decisions (really it's more of a lack of actions that she should have made), but I also thought that she was a bit misunderstood and judged unfairly (Elain made the same mistakes but is not judged as much simply because she's nicer). I think this book did a great job of explaining Nesta and why she acted the way she did. Quite honestly, I found that I related to her a lot. I love her character, and I love the chemistry between her and Cassian. They really are very well suited for each other.

The character development was fantastic. Nesta grew exponentially, and I'm really proud of her for who she became (I know she's not a real person, but I can still be proud lol). All of the other characters also grew even if just a little bit. I thought seeing Mor from a bit of a different angle was very interesting even though we only saw her for a little. I am sure you're probably tired of hearing about Gwyn by now, but I have to rave about her for a minute. She's awesome, point-blank. I cannot wait to see more of her later on (maybe hanging out with Az??? *insert winking face*).

Something that I keep hearing about this novel is that it doesn't have a plot. Honestly, it doesn't have as much of a plot as the first few books. However, it seems to be disregarded that this book's purpose was to delve into Nesta- who she is, why she is the way she is, and how she is growing. It's much deeper than most plots can dream of being. If you must have a plot-driven book, you may not like this. If you are like me, though, and also love character-driven books, you will probably love this. I adored the depth behind this.

My oh my- the romance. Y'all, SJM meant it when she switched this series to adult instead of YA. I'd definitely be conscious of the romance when reading this at a younger age. However, everyone matures differently and is okay with reading different things at varying ages, so think about what you and (if you are younger) your parents are okay with. I personally loved the romance in this book because I like the relationship.

Overall, this book was absolutely amazing. The series keeps getting better and better with each book, and I have high hopes for the next one. I cannot recommend it highly enough, and I will most likely continue to recommend it until everyone on the planet knows to read these at some point. This book is now one of my favorites right along with the rest of the series! Just amazing!
